FASHION | KONSTANTIN KOFTA SS15

Check out Konstantin Kofta’s SS 15 collection, Inertia. Not to be confused as a mere celebration of geometrics – Inertia embraces what these geometric shapes might mean to the wearer be that the next minimalist piece to covet for their collection or the perfect forms of subatomic matter, which transcend universal time and space- reminding us of the relative unimportance of humanity. Check out the lookbook below!

FASHION | Karen Walker celebrates 10 years!

This year marks the ten year anniversary of Karen Walker giving us the sunglasses we can’t live without! To celebrate one style from each year will be recreated to celebrate a milestone in the brand’s history. These sunnies will make up the CELEBRATE collection, a limited
edition, all-gold series. Metal frames are encased in clear epoxy resin, giving the illusion of a reflective solid gold finish. Lenses will have an amber base with reflective coating to give a gold mirror finish.
All of the Karen Walker classics will be represented, from ANNIE, first released in 2005, up to more recent favourites such as NUMBER ONE and SUPER DUPER STRENGTH.

Take a look at the celebrate campaign below, shot by Derek Kettela in NYC. We can’t wait to get our hands on a few pairs!

UNDERBELLY | The Other Side of Fashion Week

WORDS | Moeima Dukuly

There it is.

The home stretch and the temporary sigh of relief as fashion month comes to a close.

It’s all become pretty standard – models, collections, designers, the parties, who’s front row. Street style by New York, London, Milano and Paris. Backstage chaos. Photographer’s pit.  Been there, seen that. Every season.

But there’s always something below the familiarity and the shine of a world like fashion. Documentarian Salome Oggenfuss pokes around at said underbelly, with her film “The Other Side of Fashion Week”. Highlighting model photographers driven by a lust of beauty, Oggenfuss follows them onto the streets of Paris and New York. With only 48 hours left – she is incredibly close to raising the funds she needs to expose another side to a world in desperate need of perspective and exposure.

“I find it interesting how photographers use cameras as tools to gain access to a world they do not naturally belong to. They seek connections with other people – in this case, some of the most beautiful women in the world. I wanted to look at the effect that beauty has on people, and make a story that revolved around the human need to belong and connect, and how modern technology plays a part in that. ” – as quoted from her Kickstarter.

On her Kickstarter you will find the trailer to the documentary – a film that parts the glittering mist that surrounds the fashion world and the men drawn to women who lie somewhere between hanger, goddess, dreamgirl or mannequin. Obsessed with the hobby of capturing beauty.

XO joins model Kel Markey in promoting and supporting this film – so turn out those pockets to support something we could all use a dose of: a new reality.

Six Lee thrives on the beautifully imperfect and this season we get a deeper look into the brand’s romantic side. This collection varies in prints, lengths and cut but I think the leaning towards the eclectic mix of lengths, materials and scarf placement showcases this season’s beauty. The colour palette being mainly black and white allows for the subtle hints of pink in the model’s hair or the faint delicateness of the plaid and sheer stripes print to really make a impact. It’s a beautifully disheveled collection indeed and we can’t get enough.

#ONESTOWATCH | PARIS MEN’S S/S 2015

Words | Lola Odetola

When one thinks of Parisian fashion they may think of chic, simplicity, nautically inspired. This fashion week definitely broke all  of those stereotypes. There were many amazing rule-breakers that showed avant-garde looks that excited the whole crowd.

My favorite shows were mainly ones where there was a heavy concentration on structure and texture. The shows that grabbed my attention and kept it all the way through were the ones that truly shocked us as an audience.

Junya Watanabe’s show this season showcased a parade of beautifully patterned denim patchwork designs. The textures really drew me in and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the show. The most interesting pieces for me were the patchwork jackets and the graphic patterned t-shirts.

Though there was a lot going on in each look it wasn’t overwhelming visually. Chief colors were royal blues, navy blues, and greys. Though there were no bright colors in this show but that didn’t mean the show wasn’t exciting. By taking the focus off a loud color palette, the viewer was forced to pay more attention to the shapes and lines being showed. The person who shops the Junya Watanabe collection this season is after a clean cut and classic look with a twist.

Undercover’s collection this S/S is cutting edge. The color blocking and lettering on the garments gave an 80’s retro vibe to this presentation.  Oversized coats with clean lines reigned with a few graphic T-shirts that looked fun and playful to balance out all of the strength of the structured coats.

The color palette was mostly warm. Reds, yellows, browns, greens and grays. The colors seem like they wouldn’t go together but the unpredictable juxtaposition that made it work so seamlessly. The man who wears Undercover this season is youthful and doesn’t take himself too seriously. The pieces all scream and shout “SUMMER!” which was much needed this fashion week.

Yohji Yamamoto’s show was quite dream like. From the set to the models to the lighting to the garments. Everything worked so well together to create this other worldly realm where the textures are blended and the fabrics are luscious. The most important looks from this particular show were the  denim button downs and open coats so detailed and well made.

This was a really interesting touch that I hadn’t seen in any other show. The layers and unorthodox silhouettes were such a highlight. Looks were put together to look disheveled and unkempt giving a rough vibe to the whole show.
